desolder the inductors by the dock connector
This step is theoretically optional, but some people have reported better results after desoldering the inductors (red arrows) and the capacitors (blue arrows) at the dock side. If you choose to skip this step go to the bottom of the next section where I talk about the alternative circular metal pads to solder to.

My personal way of doing this is to tackle the tiny capacitors first (blue arrows) and then desolder the inductors (red arrows). This allows for more space on the south side of the inductors while desoldering them. Honestly you can take them out in any order and it shouldn’t matter terribly. Afterwards you should get something like this:
